Rank Him

Position: Quarterback
Girlfriend History: Romo dated Indiana-native Crystal Kasper, an optometrist, from early 2005 until she broke up with him right before he began to get playing time. He then dated country music singer Carrie Underwood from May of 2007 until the Fall - and rumors even swirled for a little while they had gotten married. Following his break-up with Underwood he was seen with actress Sophia Bush, but in November 2007, Romo began dating Jessica Simpson, who was set up with Romo by her father. Although Jessica proclaimed he was the love of her life, Tony ended the relationship on July 9, 2009, the night before her 29th birthday.
Born: April 21, 1980
Hometown: Burlington, Wisconsin
College: Eastern Illinois
Career Detail: Romo attended the 2003 NFL Combine, but despite intriguing some scouts, went undrafted during the 2003 NFL Draft. Shortly afterwards he was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Cowboys.
Nickname: Tony doesn’t have a nickname, but Jessica Simpson was dubbed “Yoko Romo” after his disastrous performance during their 2007 home game against the Eagles and during which Jessica was prominently photographed in a skybox wearing a pink #9 jersey

  • Tony’s college career mirrored a similar path as his NFL career. He went to a Division I-AA team where he started out last on the depth chart. He got his chance and quickly became No. 1 in Division I-AA in passing efficiency. His coach said, “This Tony Romo thing, it's kind of a phenomenon.”
  • Romo scored the highest of all 16 quarterbacks tested in the 2003 draft on the Wonderlic test, which is a 12-minute, 50-question quiz that helps NFL teams get a better grasp on how well and how swiftly a player can reason. (Scout.com, April 14, 2008)
  • In September 2007, Romo's father was diagnosed with prostate cancer (ESPN, October 12, 2007)
  • Before the 2007 season, without anyone noticing, Romo took out a $30 million, “loss-of-value” insurance policy which would pay out (at least in portion) if he were to get hurt. The policy cost him about $150,000 over the season. (Theory B, October 28, 2007)
