Did You Know?
  • Chad loves soccer, but chose to play football instead in high school because it offered more opportunities. He's still an avid fan, and follows international soccer whenever he has time. (Sports Illustrated, October 16, 2006)
  • Has two high-profile cousins who have been NFL stars: former wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, and current cornerback Samari Rolle. Johnson is pals with Dallas Cowboys' Terrell Owens. (Sports Illustrated, October 16, 2006)
  • Johnson was sued in May 2007 because he was alleged to have not given away a Lexus that was being raffled off. Two plaintiffs joined the suit, claiming they won trips to Europe and Hawaii from Johnson that were never awarded. (Fan House, May 5, 2007)
  • Johnson raced a thoroughbred racehorse in June 2007 for over a furlong, which is 220 yards, for charity. While Chad was given a 110-yard head start, he beat the horse by twelve lengths. (USA Today, June 10, 2007)
  • Chad is featured on the cover of EA's NFL Street 3. He's the main adversary of the game, narrating the tutorials with Clinton Portis and Byron Leftwich. (IGN, August 24, 2006)
  • In a game against the Atlanta Falcons, Johnson wore a nameplate that said "Ocho Cinco" instead of "C. Johnson" during warm ups. Carson Palmer, the quarterback, ripped the "Ocho Cinco" off of his jersey. ESPN reports that Johnson was fined $5,000 for his little stunt. (ESPN, November 3, 2006)

Player Facts:
  • Johnson is a three-time All-Pro selection, and a five-time Pro Bowler (2003-2007)
  • In April 2006, Johnson signed a contract extension, which pays an additional $35.5 million and extends through 2011
  • Johnson and teammate TJ Houshmandzadeh have been together since their college days at Oregon State. Together, they led the team to an 11-1 season in 2000, and a victory over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Johnson and Houshmandzadeh also became the first Bengals duo to each record more than 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. The two also recorded the first duo of Bengals receivers to make the Pro Bowl in the same year. However, when Johnson began to create controversy by missing offseason practices and programs with the Bengals in 2008, announcing that he wanted to be traded, Houshmandzadeh suggested that it would be better for the Bengals to agree to trade Johnson, as he may be a distraction.
  • Chad has broken several Bengals franchise records, including the most receiving yards in one season (1,440), the most receiving yards in a career, the most receptions, and the most receiving yards in a single game (260)
  • Johnson also holds Bengals records with six seasons with 1,000 or more receiving yards, and ties with others for the most touchdown receptions in a game
  • Johnson is actually playing for free this season due to fines from the previous year from the NFL (700 WLW, August 13, 2008)
