- Drew and his mother, Mina Brees, became estranged around the time of the NFL draft. It began when Drew chose someone else as his agent, and Mina later used images of her son to help her in her campaign to become a judge. Brees threatened to sue his mother, and eventually he cut all ties with her. (Statesman.com)
- Brees wears contact lenses while playing football. During an NFL game, he was knocked out and had to return to the sidelines to replace one of his contacts. (Times Daily)
- Drew agreed to advertise for Chili's Bar and Grill in 2008 in promoting a new line of hamburgers (Minnesota Sports Central, January 21, 2008)

- As a senior at Purdue, Drew was named the Academic All-America Player of the Year. His great attitude and work ethic earned him Purdue’s Leonard Wilson Award, awarded for altruism and dedication.
- While playing at Purdue, Drew was named the Big Ten Football MVP in 2000. He also received the Maxwell Award in 2000, which is given to the best player in the NCAA.
- In his first game of his rookie season, Brees started over Doug Flutie, but Flutie replaced him later in 2003. In 2002, he passed for 3,284 yards and 17 touchdowns. Brees started again in 2004, despite Philip Rivers as a new addition to the Chargers. Brees' statistical ratings ranked him near the top overall in the NFL that season--he was third behind Peyton Manning and Daunte Culpepper.

- Drew is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, a 2006 All-Pro selection, and was a co-winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2006


Charities:
- Drew and his wife established the Brees Dream Foundation, which strives to improve the lives of kids in the New Orleans area by committing parents, teachers, and community leaders to be more accountable for children's quality of life. The Foundation has teamed with Operation Kids to raise $2.5 million for the children of New Orleans. Drew and Brittany have been heavily involved in charities helping with Hurrican Katrina recovery as well. In September 2007, Drew and Brittany gave $2 million to the Student-Athlete Academic Center at Purdue University.
